Kavisurya Baladev Rath Biography : Shortly

 Kavisurya Baladev Rath was a renowned poet and writer from Odisha, India. He was born on 17th November 1918 in the village of Madhuban in Balasore district. Rath was an eminent personality in Odia literature and was known for his contribution to the development of modern Odia poetry.


Rath started his literary career by writing short stories, but it was his poetry that gained him popularity. He is known for his use of simple language and his ability to connect with his readers through his poems. Some of his famous works include "Sabdar Akash", "Nilasaila", "Mahanadi", "Usha", and "Padma Megha". He was also known for his translations of literary works from other languages into Odia.


Rath was a recipient of several prestigious awards for his contribution to Odia literature, including the Sahitya Akademi Award, the Padma Shri, and the Orissa Sahitya Akademi Award. He was also a member of the Rajya Sabha, the upper house of the Indian Parliament, from 1980 to 1986.


Apart from his literary achievements, Rath was also a social activist and worked for the betterment of society. He was associated with several social organizations and was actively involved in promoting education and healthcare in rural areas of Odisha.


Kavisurya Baladev Rath passed away on 6th May 2002, leaving behind a legacy that has inspired generations of writers and poets in Odisha. His contribution to Odia literature and his commitment to social causes continue to be remembered and celebrated in the state.
