How to Prepare Dalma Odia Receipe
Dalma is a traditional dish from the eastern Indian state of Odisha. It is a vegetarian dish made with lentils, vegetables, and spices, and is typically served with rice. Here's a simple recipe for making Dalma at home:
Ingredients:
1 cup arhar dal (split pigeon pea lentils)
1 cup mixed vegetables (diced potato, carrot, pumpkin, eggplant, beans, drumstick, etc.)
1 tsp ginger paste
1 tsp cumin seeds
1 tsp mustard seeds
2 dry red chilies
1 bay leaf
1 tsp turmeric powder
1 tsp coriander powder
Salt to taste
1 tbsp ghee (clarified butter)
1 tbsp chopped coriander leaves
Instructions:
Wash the lentils and soak them in water for 30 minutes.
In a pressure cooker, add the soaked lentils, diced vegetables, ginger paste, turmeric powder, and salt. Add enough water to cover the lentils and vegetables.
Pressure cook for 3-4 whistles or until the lentils are cooked and the vegetables are tender.
Once the pressure releases, open the cooker and mash the lentils and vegetables with a ladle.
In a pan, heat ghee and add cumin seeds, mustard seeds, bay leaf, and dry red chilies. Saute for a few seconds until the spices release their aroma.
Add coriander powder and saute for a few seconds.
Add the mashed lentils and vegetables to the pan and mix well.
Add more water if required and bring to a boil.
Let it simmer for a few minutes until the dalma thickens.
Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and serve hot with rice.
Dalma is a simple and flavorful dish that is easy to make and is a staple in Odia cuisine.
