Pana Sankranti and Odia New Year
Makar Sankranti is a festival celebrated in many parts of India, which marks the transition of the sun into the zodiac sign of Capricorn (Makar Rashi) on its celestial path. The festival usually falls on the 14th or 15th of January and is also known as Pongal, Uttarayan, Lohri, Maghi, and Bhogali Bihu in different regions of the country. In Odisha, Makar Sankranti is celebrated as 'Makar Mela' or 'Makar Sankranti' and is considered as one of the most auspicious days of the year.

On the other hand, Odia New Year, also known as 'Pana Sankranti', is celebrated in Odisha on the first day of the Hindu month of Baisakh, which usually falls on the 13th or 14th of April. The festival marks the beginning of the agricultural season and is celebrated with great enthusiasm and fervor in the state. The celebration involves making a special drink called 'pana' from water, milk, sugar, and spices, and distributing it among friends, family, and neighbors.
Both Makar Sankranti and Odia New Year are important festivals in the state of Odisha and are celebrated with traditional rituals and customs. These festivals are occasions for people to come together, offer prayers to the deities, and enjoy the festivities with their loved ones.
